Session 2
March 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd

2405 E Southern Ave Ste 5, Tempe, AZ 85282

Description This series will introduce you to the Stretch Therapy approach, and is intended for people who may or may not exercise regularly, and who feel that they want to loosen their bodies! This presentation assumes no stretching knowledge or experience, and will focus on everyone's problem areas (we know what they are!). The goal is to feel comfortable in the body and more relaxed. During these classes, you will learn to recognize and provide solutions for neck, back, shoulder, arm and hand pain caused by muscular and skeletal asymmetries. It is recommended that you bring a yoga mat if you have one. Please wear clothes that are easy and comfortable to stretch in. Also bring water. Registration can be done online at www.apexbodyworx.com. The class costs $50 total for the four classes. If you register two people at the same time, you will receive a $10 discount, making the course $90. Register for both sessions and receive an additional discount. There are no refunds if you miss any of the classes. It is recommended that you come to all four classes for maximum benefits.

Stretch for Athletic Performance
Presented by Kit Lauglin

May 30th, 2012, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA

Description

Athletic performance begins with sound biomechanics and optimal neural patterning— these two qualities create the performance that is measured by the stop watch.

Although every sport and each individual is unique, there are certain muscle groups around the body that practitioners treat again and again—are these ‘design flaws’ or are there other factors at work? As well, there are skeletal symmetry aspects that can be highly significant for particular activities, too. For example, if you are a triathlete, then relatively minor leg-bone length differences can be very significant, simply because your body spends considerable training time working in the vertical load bearing position.

Let Kit take you through the kind of prescription of exercises that he found extremely helpful in his athletic career. An ex-middle distance runner, then Olympic weightlifter, Kit has an intimate knowledge of athletes’ problems and pains—and he knows that stopping the activity that has helped create the problem is not an option.

These days you have to train smarter, not harder. This means paying attention to the neural and skeletal dimensions of your own unique structure; it means being able to relax fully, both during and after the event, to aid recovery and regeneration; and it means improving the efficiency of your movement. This has nothing to do with touching your toes!

Kit is an ex-member of the Birubi and Harbord Diggers running clubs, and was trained by Jack Pross, a protegé of Percy Cerruty. Kit has raced every distance from 100m to the marathon. He is the author of Overcome neck & back pain, and Stretching & Flexibility, and other books. He has produced and directed many films and videos. Please see his website, www.KitLaughlin.com for relevant articles and YouTube clips (you can subscribe to his channel there, too).

Introduction to Stretch Therapy™ Workshop
Presented by Kit Lauglin

June 1-3, 2012, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA

Description

The “Intro” allows attendees to experience the full range of what we offer on the longer workshops, in a compressed format. The workshop will begin mid-morning on Friday, to allow for travel. Day two, Saturday, will be a long one and Sunday will end mid-afternoon, to allow for travel home.

Friday will begin with a class, so potential Stretch Teachers can experience a real class situation. Day one will begin with spinal movements, and finish with a hip flexor stretch, and a couple of neck stretches. The rest of the day will introduce a wide range of variations of the spinal movements and the piriformis stretches, suitable for teaching to all levels of students, and we will do the partner hip flexor stretch as well: everyone needs this one! The day will finish with a lying guided relaxation script; many attendees say this is the favourite part of the day.

Saturday will also begin with a class—but this time it will be a full hour of Monkey Gym whole-body strengthening moves. These exercises include all the gymnastics core staples (these work the trunk and hips in all planes). We will cover handstand preparation movements. Progression sequences to the one-leg squat will be practised—all participants will be able to do one of the offered versions, and they will be done eccentrically, and with arm support if necessary; nothing improves balance and coordination like this sequence, either. Day two will end with a relaxation practise too.

Sunday will begin with a class that will include a stronger hip flexor sequence, and add passive back bends over supports, as well as the latest chest- and shoulder-opening partner stick exercises. Together, this combination will make a visible difference to your posture and alignment, as well as allowing the brain to access the all-essential glutes in the hip extension range of movement. The later stretches will include the innovative bent- to straight-leg floor hamstring movement, calf muscle stretches, and strong rotations. Feet, hand, forearm and neck exercises will end the day’s practise.
